When I was a young lad on my first day off to school
I carried along my flying rug, that I might see the world.
Oh, the people I would visit, and the countries I would see
When Teacher said, “Come rest your head,” on my flying rug I’d speed.

Great adventures would I have while gliding through the sky
The wind upon the mountain tops, the laughter in the eye.
No challenge ‘ere was found too great, no beauty found too small
But for my teacher’s gentle plea, I’d not come back at all.

So let the wind blow, let your thoughts grow,
Let another know you are near.
Let the willow bend, let the song begin
May there be no end to your dreams.

Now I never dare to fly so high, or fast, or far, it seems
As once upon that flying rug back in my youthful dreams
The world is so much more complex, with troubles everywhere
The weight upon one fragile soul is more than one might bear.

So let the wind blow, let your thoughts grow,
Let another know you are near.
Let the willow bend, let the song begin
May there be no end to your dreams.

This one thought I share with you, my friends, if just for now
Seek to find that child-like mind, and sing your dreams aloud
Words that carry heart to heart much more than dream of flight
So, come, we sing together on our flying rug tonight!

And let the wind blow, let your thoughts grow,
Let another know you are near.
Let the willow bend, let the song begin
May there be no end to your dreams.
